Catapulting Innovation into Orbit

A new technology and innovation centre of expertise to help UK businesses develop new satellite-based products and technologies is holding a workshop at ECIT, Northern Ireland Science Park, Belfast on 29th June -9.30am-2.30pm.  The ‘Satellite Applications Catapult’ Workshop is open to local businesses, researchers and academics interested in finding out more about the initiative and how it can benefit those local businesses with interests in the burgeoning satellite sector.

Organised under the wider ‘Catapult’ programme, overseen by the UK Technology Strategy Board and backed by over £200 million of government investment, it is designed to provide a big push to revitalise the economy by stimulating innovation and accelerating growth in various innovation sectors across the UK. The concept is that scientists, engineers and business innovators will be able to pool expertise, intelligence and experience on a nationwide scale and make a significant contribution to our economy.

The vision for the ‘Satellite Applications Catapult’ is to create the world’s pre-eminent centre of expertise and facilities for commercially successful satellite data processing and product development and is keen to involve the Northern Ireland sector.  It will support UK industry and particularly SMEs in the development of satellite applications and key supporting technologies through ‘Catapult Programmes’.

A further aim of Catapult is to link research groups with the industrial community through Applied Research activities.  Programmes and Applied Research will be supported by Facilities and Services on a needs basis. Attendees will also be able to find out more about the ‘Connected Digital Economy Catapult’ and have the opportunity to consider the key cross linkages with the ‘Satellite Applications Catapult’.
