Northern Ireland Science Park is celebrating this month after the arrival of leading software provider SAP and onsite expansion of global blue-chip company Broadsoft.
Based in the new Concourse building, SAP has entered into strategic research collaboration with Intel to develop technologies that will support efficient implementation of software-as-a-service (SaaS) using cloud technologies. The new tenant benefits from Tier One Internet, Telephony Gateways and carrier-independent infrastructure. Equipped with wireless capabilities, NISP offers free, open access for all tenants and is fast becoming the location of choice for not only Belfast-born companies but for blue-chip multi-nationals.
Director of Corporate Real Estate and Facilities, Mervyn Watley said: ‘NISP is a commercial and research centre for knowledge based enterprises and we are delighted that innovative companies such as SAP have chosen here for their Northern Ireland headquarters. The Concourse building is the perfect location for SAP; it offers adaptable office solutions as well as a range of management support services including ICT packages which has enabled them to commence operations quickly without heavy capital investment.’
November also saw BroadSoft – the worldwide leader of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) application software – announce the expansion of its Northern Ireland operations to support the company’s growth in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. BroadSoft originally opened its European Headquarters at Northern Ireland Science Park in 2006 and since then the company has more than doubled its space requirement and intends to bring total employment onsite to 23 over the next three to five years.
Speaking after meeting with BroadSoft’s Vice President of Operations Geoffrey K Hicks and NISP Chairman Frank Hewitt, DETI Minister Arlene Foster said that Northern Ireland’s international reputation for fibre-optic connectivity continues to attract global companies and will help the region to export its way back towards economic growth.
Welcoming BroadSoft’s expansion onsite, NISP Chairman Frank Hewitt said, ‘Our flexible, agile workspace solutions and open-access connectivity supports the needs of companies across a wide range of sectors. NISP blends the very best infrastructure with business support mechanisms to promote growth among tenant companies. During its time here, BroadSoft has expanded significantly, and we want to see them continue to grow with us. We are pleased to offer the capacity that matches BroadSoft’s growing customer support requirements.’
Geoffrey K Hicks, vice president of operations at BroadSoft said, ‘The expansion of BroadSoft’s operations at NISP not only further establishes our strong presence in EMEA, but also ensures our customers continue to receive world-class, real-time technical support and professional services from our Belfast Operations Centre.’
