25K AWARDS
About
The 25k Awards is an annual competition that is designed to showcase the most innovative research and intellectual property from the publicly funded institutions in Northern Ireland. Over the course of six months, select teams are supported to develop comprehensive business plans to present to a panel of highly qualified and experienced judges. In order to compete for a share of the £25,000 prize, teams are challenged to refine their business idea and incorporate key start-up strategies at an early stage. It is envisaged that all participants are given the tools to launch a successful start-up, while cultivating the market-disrupting potential of promising technologies in the Hi-tech, Bio-tech, Clean-tech, and Digital Media/Software sectors.
Who should apply?
The competition is open to any member of research staff, academic, masters or PhD student, doctors, nurses or individual in any facility where public money is spent on R&D. Undergraduate students are encouraged to enter the Student Enterprise Awards, however, undergraduates will be welcome to enter if they have developed a potentially breakthrough science or technology innovation.
All entrants, except undergraduate students, should contact the technology transfer office at their institution well in advance of the submission deadline, to ensure the intellectual property ownership is clearly defined and where appropriate the idea is protected.
A team or individual can enter many times with many different ideas or technologies.
Ideas that have already made it into the top ten in previous years are NOT eligible to reapply.
All applicants must be willing to devote the time and commitment necessary to all components of the 25k Award, with a genuine ambition to commercialise their idea.
